PC-98

NEC's PC-98, the dominant Japanese personal computer through the late 80s and 90s. Its YM2608 - Yamaha's OPNA - offers six FM channels, a three-voice SSG, six rhythm voices played from a sample ROM inside the chip itself, and one variable-rate ADPCM channel. The platform developed a musical culture of its own, largely separate from the console scene.
